Your kingdom is under threat!

Not just from pretenders and rebels who seek to usurp you, but also the very nobles flocking to your aid...

In "Oh Nobles!" you must try to avoid defeat while leading an army commanded by some of the most awful aristrocats in all the realm. Luckily for you the other side won't be much better off either. To triumph survive, you must mitigate the flaws of those who follow you, while exploiting the errors within the enemy lines.

Controls

  • Arrow Keys to move around selection
  • X/(X) to select or confirm, Z/(O) to cancel
  • Supports mouse (Move cursor to highlight, Left-click confirm, Right Click cancel)
  • 2 Player Modes uses hotseat controls by default (so players must pass the controls to the next player after their turn).

How to play

  • Each turn you must choose to activate one of your nobles or your regent
  • Nobles can move up to 2 spaces and attack during their turn - BUT certain nobles have flaws that interfere with this.
  • Regents can also move up to 2 spaces, but cannot attack. Instead they can reinforce (heal) allies that have less than 6 troops
  • When a noble attacks it will do damage equal to half the number of troops rounded up - AGAIN certain nobles have flaws that change this
  • After a Regent or Noble has taken their turn they are no longer "ready" (they are le-tired!) and cannot be activated again until Tea & Refreshments
  • If at the start of your turn all none of your Nobles or Regent are ready, then it's Tea Time! During this turn all your Nobles and Regent will become ready again, and you can choose one Noble to reinforce if any of them have taken damage.
  • Forts reduce the damage a noble or regent take while they occupy it
  • Swamps inrease the damage a noble or regent takes while they occupy it
  • Capitals can only be held and captured by regents, though nobles can move through them

How to avoid Losing

Victory is a rather high bar to achieve, lets focus on the more pressing matter of avoiding defeat...

  • Keep your Regent alive at all times, if they are taken out by an attack you lose immediately
  • If there's one capital, make sure your Regent reaches it first or you will lose
  • If there's more than one capital, make sure you capture all the capitals
  • If you lose all your nobles, you will lose

Game Modes

  • Capital Grab/Capital Disaster; there is one capital, whoever fails to capture it first, loses
  • Fail of Two Cities; each player has a capital, first player who loses their capital to the other player, loses
  • Regent Riot; no capitals, first regent to die, loses
  •  Oops! All Nobles; no capitals, no regents, just the worst nobles ever fighting until one side is eliminated - and loses (I'm so sorry...)
  • Random Biff; randomly generated (but symmetrically "fair") map, based on one of the previously mentioned Game Modes chosen at random (except for Oops! All Nobles - no one should randomly experience that!)
  • Chaotic Biff; like Random Biff, except the map generated is not symmetrically fair, so good luck!

Tips

  • You do not (currently) get to choose which nobles will support your ascendancy to the throne. You have to deal with the hand of awful aristocrats that you were dealt.
  • The less nobles you have, the more often you will get Tea & Refreshments - pay attention and use this information wisely!

Future Plans

"Oh Nobles!" is currently still being developed, and there are a bunch of features I want to eventually try to fit into the game if I can. These include;

  • Three and Four player modes
  • A small simple single-player campaign (or some better structured single player maps)
  • The ability to draft/choose your nobles
  • A scoring system to reward the most efficient and effective victories (and possibly saved high scores)
  • Battle of the Day (random battles generated from the days date)
  • Music?
  • More horrible Nobles!
  • Eventually downloadable .exe's and pico8 carts

In the meantime though let me know what you thought about the game using this questionnaire!
